How to Organize Kids’ Rooms

Maintaining an organized household can be difficult, especially when children are involved. Kids are constantly growing, changing interests and bouncing between school and extra-curricular activities. The area of greatest clutter – their bedrooms. Teaching kids to tidy up at an early age will help you maintain an organized space in the long run. Here are some ideas for how to engage children in the process and properly store their belongings:

Keep organization within their reach. Lower closet hanging rods and bookshelves so they are eye level with your child. Kids will be more likely to hang something up or put it in its proper place if they are easily able to do so. Likewise, keep objects out of reach that you don’t want children to play with or handle.

The right containers are key. Different toys require different storage methods and providing the right storage space can make it easier for children to clean up after themselves. It’s best to utilize a variety of containers, like clear plastic boxes, canvas totes and netting. A good way to store stuffed animals is in a Space Bag High Capacity Cube to save space. The compressible Cube will take up a fraction of the space of the toys and also protect them from dirt, insects, allergens and odors. Be sure to leave a few plush toys out and rotate them every so often, so children can feel like they’re playing with new toys.

Purge clothing regularly. Kids grow quickly, meaning they need new clothes often. Go through each child’s closet regularly and pull out any outgrown items. If there is a younger sibling or family friend who could grow into the used clothing, preserve clothing for them by washing and placing it in a Space Bag Storage Pack. The airtight seal will prevent dust, moisture and pests from damaging the clothing inside, meaning you can save money instead of buying all new clothes.

Repurpose arts and crafts. Hanging on to every scrap of paper that has been doodled on can be tempting for most parents. Unfortunately keeping every precious creation can create a storage dilemma. Consider keeping only a few pieces of art from each age or especially sentimental items, and letting go of the rest. If you want to repurpose them, drawings and paintings can be used to wrap gifts for grandma or to create a collage. You can also repurpose artwork into magnets, coasters or place mats.
